PLEASE READ ALL OF THIS.
The bus will leave DB early Saturday morning, the Coach will communicate the exact time that you are expected to arrive.
The boys are to be transported by team bus only. Please do not ask to transport your son separately unless it is due to an emergency.
Food/Facilities: We will provide breakfast (bagels) and beverages during the morning bus transportation. We will also have a full food tent set up on both Saturday and Sunday. As usual, the OC has arranged for a private portable toilet to be at our tent site for the weekend.
IMPORTANT: The boys are expected to stay with the team the entire weekend. They must stay on the regatta site, either at the team boat trailer or at the team tent site. They must not “wander off” of the regatta river grounds.
Please make sure your son is prepared for any forecasted weather conditions, cool or warm temperatures, rain, wind, or shine. It is also allergy season so please provide any normal necessary relief.
Saturday is a qualifying day. it is often a long and tiring day at the regatta.
Following the completion of their races, the boys will be bused to the Westin Hotel in Mt. Laurel. Boys will double up in a room. As the boys are minors, we are required to give the hotel a room list. They must adhere to these assigned rooms.
● We have assigned rooms based on their grade level. We will not be playing musical rooms - the boys must conform to their assigned rooms. Room assignments will be provided when we arrive at the hotel and not beforehand. OC parent chaperones will perform luggage inspections on arrival before check in and room/bed checks during the evening. Chaperones will also be posted in the lobby throughout the evening. *Chaperones have completed the required training course; “Protecting God’s Children.”
Coaches and qualified parent chaperones stay on site as well. (The OC pays for the food and lodging for boys, coaches, and the bus driver.)
Appropriate Behavior: Please discuss ahead of time with your son that appropriate behavior that is expected of him. DBP Team travel are considered “ZERO TOLERANCE” events. There are eyes, ears, hotel cameras and cell phones everywhere! Please reinforce that your son's language and behavior must be beyond reproach. If there are ANY incidents, we will contact the rower’s parents and ask that your son be picked up and be removed from the event.
Our boys represent DBP. As they are draped from head to toe in DBP gear, they should act in a manner that will make the school proud. DBP is recognized nationally, so we want our team and our boys to project a positive image.
Attire: The team attire for the evening dinner is the same as their daily school attire, Don Bosco golf shirt, school slacks and shoes.
Dinner: For Saturday night we have arranged for the team and coaches to have dinner at the Westin Hotel (paid for by the OC). The boys remain with the team and coaches the entire dinner time. The Crew team will have their own dinning and residence experience at the Westin that is completely separate from that of the parents attending the event.
Crew Team Three course meal
● First course: Caesar salad with croutons and shredded parmesan cheese.
● Second course: Choice of grilled chicken, salmon, or Short Rib (Beef).
● Third course: Dessert.
● Beverage: Soda or juice.
Parents attending Cities: Parents may stay either at the Westin Hotel or at another local hotel. Saturday night is typically a get together for dinner and drinks (often at Miller’s Ale House). It is a congenial way for parents to get to know each other and have fun. Again, all of this is separate from the boys.
On Sunday, the team is up at the crack of dawn. That morning the boys will check with each other to make sure everyone is up and are ready for the team check out and departure Sunday morning.
Food: Breakfast will be on the bus and at the family tent. As stated earlier, we will have our food tent for the full day on Sunday.
Check Out: The boys must be ready to board the bus with all of their personal items and overnight bag. The Coach will inform the team on Saturday Night (after dinner) of the bus departure time and when they must report to the lobby in the morning. OC chaperones will verify all are accounted for before boarding our bus.
Note: Should none of our rowers qualify for the Sunday races then we will leave in the morning and return to DBP in the afternoon.
We encourage all parents to come, watch the races and/or assist with our tent. Hopefully, the weather will be nice, and we will have a great weekend.
Do not hesitate to contact Pat Nash if you have any specific questions.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation.
